Never use online “seed generators” — they can steal your phrase. Only trusted wallets or verified offline tools.

What Is a Seed Phrase and Why It Matters

A seed phrase (mnemonic) is a human-readable version of your private key. It’s 12–24 words from the BIP-39 standard list (2048 words). It allows you to restore access to all your wallets and funds.

If someone gets your seed — they control your money forever. No recovery, no support.

BIP-39 Standard: 12 words = 128-bit entropy (~340 billion billion combinations), 24 words = 256-bit (practically unbreakable). The last word is a checksum — it verifies correctness.

Option 1: Generate in a Trusted Wallet (Recommended)

1. MetaMask (Browser / Mobile)

2. Trust Wallet (Mobile)

3. Hardware Wallet (Most Secure)

Seed is generated inside the device and never leaves it.

Option 2: Offline Generation (Advanced)

For maximum security — generate seed without internet.

Method A: Ian Coleman’s BIP39 Tool (Offline)

  1. Go to iancoleman.io/bip39
  2. Download the page (right-click → Save As → “Webpage, Complete”)
  3. Disable Wi-Fi
  4. Open downloaded index.html
  5. Generate 24 words → write down
  6. Verify checksum (last word must match)

Method B: Dice Roll (True Randomness)

Roll a 6-sided die 99 times → convert to binary → generate seed.

Too complex for most users. Use only if paranoid.
